BUYER AND CELLAR

By Joshua Harmon

The international hit comedy Buyer and Cellar arrives in Melbourne!

Alex More is an out-of-work actor in desperate need of a new job. When he takes a role as a shop assistant in Malibu, he could never have imagined it would be in the basement of a lavish mansion … owned by Barbra Streisand. Amongst iconic outfits and beloved childhood trinkets, this delightful story of fame and friendship offers a fantastical journey through Streisand’s real-life basement mall.

A cult hit in New York and London, Buyer and Cellar is an outrageous one-man comedy about the price of fame and the oddest of odd jobs, starring the incredibly talented Ash Flanders.

Flanders holds the stage completely, giving a likeable and restrained performance that doesn't turn into a parody of itself. He has been astutely directed by Gary Abrahams in a way that lets the right amount of air into the script but keeps the whole meringue intact.- The Age

The play was warm, heartfelt and gregarious in all the right ways.- Theatre Press

In a work that could easily be as outrageous as an amyl-fuelled Barbra drag queen at 3 am, director Gary Abrahams has pulled everything back to a point where its moments of high-camp glory, snarky bitching, and bonkers-Babs-buying-her-own-dolly feel real.- Melbourne Arts
